Because we have a high mineral content in our local water, gas fired water heaters do not last as long due to fouling (8 to 10 years or may be even less). Manufacturers recommend draining off the bottom periodically to "blow down" the mineral rich lower concentration of water. Water temperature at the bottom is low. What are your thoughts on using this device for automatic blow down for a minute every 3 days or so? I would also restrict the drain valve as the water has to go into my furnace condensate pump to push it into the drain system. What is the valve design (solenoid on off or rotating ball)? Thank you.
